Salon Software and Booking: The Honest Buyer's Guide

The right salon software is the one your front desk and your stylists will actually use, not the one with the longest feature list.

The right salon software is the one your front desk and your stylists will actually use, not the one with the longest feature list. A powerful system nobody adopts is worse than a simple one everybody does.

How to judge salon software: five checks that matter

Judge every platform on four things

One, does it let a client book from her phone in under a minute, without a phone call. Two, does it cut no-shows with automatic reminders and a card on file. Three, does it show you the numbers that matter, rebooking rate and revenue per stylist, without a spreadsheet. Four, does it get out of your team's way instead of adding steps. Pick for those four, and ignore the rest of the feature list.

Test before you commit

Run any system you are serious about with your busiest stylist for two full weeks. The busiest chair finds every flaw fast. If she fights it, your whole team will, no matter how good the demo looked.

Do not chase the newest tool every year

Switching systems costs you data, training time, and a month of friction. Choose well once, and give it time to pay off, instead of restarting the pain every time a shinier option appears.
